Keenwah Kid-Approved School Lunch Picks
Back to school is in full swing and all of the Keenwah Kids are toting healthy lunches to avoid whatever it is being served in the cafeteria. Here are some picks from I heart Keenwah's resident moms for not only nutritious, easy lunch snacks, but also fun accessories your kids will love.
Natalie's Picks (For ages 8+)
My son Teno is officially a fourth grader now which means my dog is now the only living thing in my house that still thinks I'm cool. Middle schoolers are super opinionated so these picks have been carefully curated to avoid eye rolls and exasperated sighs.
- R2-D2 Lunchbag - With plenty of room for lunch and a drink, this lightly insulated droid-shaped bag lights up and makes noise so it's just obnoxious enough for a 9-year-old.
- Titanium Spork - I travel with this spork (um... I eat a lot, OK?) and it's durable enough to last a whole year in a big kids' lunch bag.
- Grab n' Go Quinoa Clusters - To end his meal on something a little sweet, but not too sugary, I pack 1oz bags of quinoa clusters in Teno's lunch bag.
- Vegan Jerky - Yep, you read that write. My kiddo is a life-long vegetarian but that doesn't mean he has to go without jerky!
- Rawtella - That other hazelnut and chocolate spread has some dirty secrets in its ingredients list, so for a treat, I pack this raw, vegan, low-glycemic alternative.
Sarah's Picks (Ages 2-5)
- Wean cubes: They're glass, so they're BPA free, super cute and easy open for the little ones.
- Vitamin gummies: Doc wasn't sure our little guys were getting enough calcium, so we started a daily does of vitamins. The kids call these "treats," so I can skip putting something bigger and even more full of sugar in their lunch each day.
- 1.5oz quinoa puffs - Everyone loves Booty, but my kids are also head over heels for quinoa puffs. With 7g of protein in each bag and a simple ingredient list, I feel good about giving it to them and they heart it.
- Teenage mutant ninja turtle lunch box - Love that the turtles are cool again. Cowabunga dude.
- All natural peanut butter - If I let them, they'd have PB&J every day of every week, forever. So it's important to me that I pick a peanut butter that's not chock full of sugar. I look for an ingredient list that's just peanuts. Just don't forget to stir it up before you spread!
