eat food. it seems obvious. but in this day and age, that's easier said than done. natural flavor...where does that come from? soy protein isolate...what's involved in isolating it?
why do we eat food, really? well, at the heart of it, food is fuel. fuel for the amazing engines that are our bodies. i don't know about you, but i want to put the best engine oil possible in there. we only get one chance, one body, and i want to make the most of it. filling my food with chemicals, or processing it until the nutrients are unrecognizable feels risky. unnecessarily so.
it's easy to feel far away from our food. most of us don't grow our own food, and many of us don't even prepare much of it. but one thing that is easy for us to exercise is choice. there is an abundance of choice in our supermarkets, on-line, at farmer's markets. this is where we can take ownership of the food we put in our bodies.
i encourage you to take a look at the ingredient lists of the items in your pantry. how many things do you not recognize? does it make you wonder, with all the choices out there, if you've given yourself the best you could?
